Desafío

During the dictatorship, the most violent homophobic persecution in the country's history occurred. This repression imprisoned, tortured, and executed hundreds of people from the LGBTIQ+ community. Until an anonymous letter, published by the then-active newspaper El País, called on society for tolerance and respect, prompting the population to demand an end to the abuses.

Today, Paraguay is among the most homophobic countries in the world, which affects the rights and social acceptance of this community.

That's why we decided to go back to the past to change the present.

Solución

We revived the edition of the old newspaper where the so-called 'Letter from an Amoral Person' appeared, the manifesto that, over time, was forgotten but at the time put an end to the well-known 'case of the 108.' This time, through signatures and social participation, the need and desire of society to improve protection policies for the affected community was highlighted.

We reprinted the complete edition of El País from September 30, 1959, a newspaper that is no longer in circulation, which captured national attention. Inside, we included 'Letter from an Amoral Person' with its original text intact.

The letter became a symbol for the LGBTIQ+ community and a matter of national interest, reflecting that, despite the passage of time, inequality remains prevalent. In this way, we succeeded in sparking a new conversation about the issue and the necessary advances in social inclusion policies.
